The Art Workshops of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete in collaboration with visual artist Angelos Skourtis on two educational projects for all children in the city, on Saturday, 21 December 2013 at 10.00-12.00 on the Museum’s premises.
Α) Working on a haiku poem by Skourtis, “Last night a Bird or an Angel Came into our house; I found a feather on the floor” the children will make birds and angel to give to their family and friends or use to decorate their home or Christmas tree.
Β) The second project is about financial straits and people’s need to love and support one another.
Children learn that by spreading out a cardboard to form a cross shape and having the words PAPER CROSS written in the middle —in an allusion to the Red Cross— they can make a symbol which will be put up on their neighbourhood walls (with two or three nails at its lower part) to mark the spot where their families and neighbours can leave packets of surplus food (with the date of preparation written on them) or clothing, food, toys etc. for individuals and families who are in need but cannot or will not go to soup kitchens to get meals for themselves and their children.
The children can also organise themselves into open PAPER CROSS teams in their school or neighbourhood.
