A week of May devoted to the International Museum Day, with events for children and adults by the Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete.
Sunday, 1st June 2014, ”Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe”
Educational programme for children with Angelos Skourtis, Rethymnon Municipal Garden, 11:30 am.
The Workroom of Fine Arts of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete and artist Angelos Skourtis planned a celebration for the city’s children at the Municipal Garden on Sunday, June 1 at 11:30 am.
Édouard Manet, Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe (1863). The figures in the painting have just finished a meal in the wood—that is, a picnic. I just love it!
Picnics are not part of our culture, perhaps because certain erroneous views prevent us from enjoying the magic and the pleasures of nature; we usually go to restaurants or snack bars.
Now think of another way: one Saturday out in the country, with our own food to suit the occasion. The chequered tablecloth, our own chosen music or the ‘soundtrack’ of cicadas and wind-rustled leaves. Pure delight!
Inspired by Édouard Manet’s milestone painting Le Déjeuner sur l’herbe, the Workroom of Fine Arts of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete in collaboration with the 2nd Primary School invite our young friends and their parents to the Municipal Garden on Sunday, June 1 at 11:30am for a delightful and creative aesthetic feast of vision, hearing, touch, smell and taste!
Parents are kindly requested to provide children with snacks as well as a sketching pad with crayons, marker pens, pastel colours or any other materials they wish.
Admission was free.
